5 Little Known Facts about Chattanooga, TN

Chattanooga is the fourth-largest city in the state of Tennessee. It is the seat of Hamilton County and was established in 1839. It is located in southeastern Tennessee, along the Tennessee River and the border of Georgia. One interesting fact about Chattanooga is that it is home to the world’s largest freshwater aquarium, the Tennessee Aquarium. Another fun fact is that the city is home to the world’s steepest passenger railway, the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. #1 Coca-Cola! (Yep, you heard us right!) Did you know that Chattanooga was the very first bottler of Coca-Cola in the US! This was started by a group of men from Atlanta that began bottling in 1899. #2 ​Chattanooga Bakery baked the first MoonPie in 1917 for just .5! These can still be found at the MoonPie General Store right in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. 

#3 Did you know Chattanooga is also known as “Gig-City?” This is because in 2010 Chattanooga was the first city to offer 1 gigabit-per-second. This was a game changer for internet users, 12 years later we offer 25 gigabit-per-second and have some of the fastest internet in the nation! ​(Hello remote job workers!) 

#4 Waterfalls are a true sight to see, but have you seen an underground waterfall? Yep, Chattanooga is home to Ruby Falls which has the tallest and deepest underground waterfall. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to make a trip to check it out. It’s worth it! 

#5 Chattanooga is known for the blue walking bridge, if you google Chattanooga it almost always comes up first. This iconic bridge is the Walnut Street walking bridge it is one of the worlds longest walking bridges at 2,376 feet. This bridge was built in 1890 and is still a popular attraction today.
